Back at the Leaky Dinghy, Quri Uki’s Priests in Estazia reported the corpses had emerged from the White Oak Square Cemetery, and Octavious gathered mixed impressions of Victor Cole: respected by some, despised by others as a colonizer, and wealthy enough to lodge at The Seaside Chateau. The following day the party investigated the cemetery. The disturbed graves were ancient—no evidence of digging, summoning markings, or necromantic residue. Kunaq’s detect magic revealed only a faint, inexplicable magical presence, suggesting a creature rather than a caster had been involved. A knock on a neighboring door introduced James Ramdath, a grumpy but lonely old Firbolg who had been ill for three months and unknowingly lived beside the epicenter of the outbreak. Kunaq prepared a remedy for his ailments, and in gratitude James allowed the party to take items from his cluttered basement—including an ornate rapier bearing a family crest, a decorative golden shield, and golden gauntlets. Nakuji Nabunae left his short sword at James’s doorstep, hoping to inspire the old man to live more boldly.

Finally, the group staged a beach spectacle to create a distraction: Nakuji forged an ornate blade as the Ageless Smith, M’Baku issued a gladiator’s challenge and bested one of Victor Cole’s own soldiers, and Kunaq’s priests stood ready as EMS while Meng scaled the Seaside Chateau. Inside Victor Cole’s room she found a letter to Fort Bastion requesting quarantine aid with specific directions—leaving only a slip of paper in a chest she could not unlock. James Ramdath and Bruna watched from the front row, and as the festivities wound down, James stepped forward to address the crowd: “We don’t have to give up on this city.”

Next day

  • Going to White Oak Square Cemetery.

  • Arrive at cemetery. Barricaded with police tape.

  • Go inside.

  • Groups of families buried together.

  • White Oak spreads over the center.

  • Some graves are old enough not to have any caskets. No markings of anyone having been digging. The Corpses in Estazia came straight out of the ground.

  • Not the founders’ headstones themselves, but a couple generations after.

  • Kunaq is curious if it’s possible they were reanimated corpses especially if they were buried in the ground. Embalming could have preserved the bodies.

  • M’Baku traces some names of the old gravestones, reminding him of not long ago, how he would carve into his Estazia Arena Barracks cell wall.

  • Go across the graveyard and knock on a door. James Ramdath, and a very old Firbolgs of Wilder, answers the door.

  • We go to the The Seaside Chateau. At the front desk is Julian.

  • Meng says she has a cake for Victor Cole and if they could check if he is here.

  • Victor Cole’s room is 432. Balcony overlooking the ocean.

  • M’Baku asks for a recommendation for a plumber. Julian gives us a name.

Sorry, gotta start.

The next morning, the group gathered two corpses in a separate head from the sewers, while Meng lifted the city’s Spirits with the Morning Song for the Fallen, the others noted Rising and rest citizens divided by between grief, denial, and anger toward the city guard. On their way to deliver the corpses to this bellspire.

They kept. They encountered a heat of crowd in the market. One speaker calling for isolationism. Another, a visiting human soldier named a Victor Cole from the distant Taryn Empire urging unity and compassion. He revealed. A similar Undead outbreak had struck remote jungle Village. Days earlier. Octavius and Umbaku guru’s Imperial motives, while mang subtly planted a tracking device on him before he departed.

Finally, the group climbed the mountain to the Violet sages, spellsfire, where a tuxedo Cat Stuart let them inside to meet Keith and Julia. Preparing to petition the reclusive luminary mantovani, they ready themselves for negotiation, offering the recovered corpses in exchange for information about the undead, the weave, and perhaps the greater mystery connecting the these interdimensional events.

So they’re still really old. But not. No rational pattern.

No other markings on the grounds in terms of like. Um, because you might even be looking for like, ritualistic, like summoning marks or anything like that you’re not seeing anything like that anywhere, and you guys aren’t either. Even with, like, some of his help. I’m like, what to look for?
